Explanation of Admission Requirements
ANURS Program

Item 1: System Application Form (SAF)

If you are new to Kapi'olani Community College or are returning after being out a semester or more, you must fill out the System Application Form (SAF). List your new major as: ANURS

Item 2: Application for Selective Admission Program (ASAP)

This form helps track your application. All students, whether new or continuing students must complete and submit the ASAP form. List your Program Choice as ANURS.

Item 3: High School Transcripts, Diploma or GED

A High School transcript showing graduation or a copy of the diploma or a GED Certificate are required of everyone. An application is considered INCOMPLETE without the HS transcript, diploma, or GED and cannot be processed. If you are reapplying for the program you may need to resubmit transcripts as they are archived if you do not enroll in the program.

*Confirm with the KISC regarding the use of maiden or other names on High School Transcript/Diploma and past submissions.

Item 4: Official Transcripts

All the prerequisites must have been completed by the deadline of that application period: February 1 for Fall entrance; September 1 for Spring entrance.

  • Have official transcripts submitted to the KISC Office by the deadline.
  • All courses must be completed with a "C" or higher and current within the times allowed.
  • Courses must be taken on a A-F basis except for credit-by-examination for which a "Cr" may be accepted. Cr/NCr for other courses is acceptable only if the institution used Cr/NCR exclusively for their grading system.
  • The Nursing Advisor can do an unofficial transcript evaluation prior to entry into the program. Course descriptions for work done outside the U.H. System are required. Prior to the application deadline a Transcript Evaluation Request Form must be submitted for all courses, and courses descriptions are required for courses taken outside the University of Hawai'i system. Evaluation takes one or more semesters to complete.

Students with a GPA of less than 2.0 at any College or University and those who are on probation or suspension for other reasons will not be considered until they have returned to non-probationary status.

Item 5: Submission of NLN RN Pre-Admission Exam Score

The NLN RN Pre-Admission Exam tests you on reading and comprehension, math and science. Have a copy of the NLN test score to the Nursing Office by the close of the application period if you did NOT list KCC as your "designated school". Test results must be sent directly from the NLN. No xerox copies will be accepted. Minimum acceptable score on composite is 95. Score remains current for 3 years. Can be retaken twice a year (as of 10/02).

Selection for Acceptance

All applicants who have met the minimum requirements are considered for acceptance on a best qualified basis. Applicants are ranked on a point scale reflecting the following criteria:

  • NLN RN Pre-Admission Exam Score;
  • G.P.A. for completed prerequisite and co-requisite support courses;
  • Co-requisite support courses completed by the application deadline.

Health Requirements

Accepted students will be sent a Health Packet with specific information and forms including the following. You will need to complete the requirements before you register. ALL HEALTH REQUIREMENTS INCLUDING IMMUNIZATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER.
