Explanation Of Admission Requirements
ARCH Program

Item 1: UH System Application Form (SAF)

If you are new to KCC or will return after being out a semester, you must fill out the System wide Application Form (SAF) List your major as: CHO (Care Home Operator)

Item 2: Application for Selective Admission Program (ASAP)

For new as well as continuing students, the ASAP is essential. Fill out the form and list your program Choice as ARCH

Item 3: Reading Ability

Use one of these two ways (options) to meet the minimum reading requirement:

Option 1: Compass Placement Test - A Compass reading score of 57 is required for entrance into the ARCH program. Go to http://kcc.hawaii.edu/object/assessment.html for information about the Compass Test and how to prepare for it.

  • Obtain the Compass Placement Test form at the KISC Office, 'Ilima 202.
  • Take the Compass Placement Test Form and a photo ID with your social security number to 'Iliahi 127 (Testing Center).
  • After completing the test, take a copy of your test results to the Admissions Office in 'Ilima 202.
  • Placement Test deadline for this program is April 7 for Fall admission. Test scores from other campuses must be received by the K.C.C. Admissions Office by that date.

The Compass Placement Test can be taken every 120 days. If more than one test is taken, the highest valid score within the last year will be used. Otherwise the most recent score will be used. Scores are valid for 2 years. The Compass test is not a timed test. Come prepared to stay awhile if you need the time.

Option 2: Waiver of Placement Test by Course Completion (in lieu of testing)

If you took ENG 21 and earned a "C" or higher within the past 10 years, you do not need to take the Reading and/or Math test if you took the courses:

  • at KCC
  • at another UH campus and submitted transcripts by the deadline
  • at a non-UH campus and submitted transcripts and course descriptions to the KISC Office, Ilima 202.

Request official transcripts from colleges other than KCC to be sent directly to the KISC Office in 'Ilima 202.

Item 4: Official College Transcripts

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS must accompany each course taken outside the UH System. Courses are evaluated for content, equivalency and credit. Transcripts must be sent from the high school or outside campus to the KISC Office. No hand carried transcripts are accepted.

Item 7: Verification of Work Experience

The Verification of Work Experience should be sent directly to the Nursing Office, Kopiko 201. It must have the signature of your supervisor. If you worked at more than one place, it is permissible to have two letters sent in order to combine the hours that you worked as a nurse aide.

Selection for Acceptance

As soon as you have submitted your application forms, test scores or transcript and an acceptable Work Verification form you can be accepted.
