Introduction

Kapi`olani Community College’s Massage Therapy Program is a 680 hour non-credit program comprised of coursework with competency testing and clinical experience. The length of the program is approximately 11 months to complete. It includes two certificates of competence, one in General Massage Therapy and another in Specialty Massage Therapy. Students may also choose to enter an apprenticeship program after completion of the first certificate by applying directly with the Board of Massage Therapy for approval to complete remaining requirements for state licensure.

Students who successfully complete both certificates in its entirety at Kapi`olani Community College will be eligible to take the Hawaii State Board of Massage Licensing Examination, as well as the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

We offer a very high quality massage therapy education provided by some of the finest instructors in Hawaii . Occasionally, we will also host several Internationally and Nationally recognized instructors to come to Hawaii and teach a few courses as part of the curriculum. The students are also encouraged to take an active role in the community outside of the campus and are given ample opportunities to participate and provide student massages at community fairs and conventions.

Class meeting times are limited to Mondays through Thursdays from 6pm to 9pm to meet the needs of many who work or attend school during the day. Occasionally, the class may meet on Fridays or Saturdays with advance notice to students. Student clinical times may be custom tailored to meet each student’s schedule, but are available from 2pm to 6pm, Mondays through Saturdays.

"I'm glad I chose Kapi`olani Community College over other massage therapy schools. KCC has a wider variety of courses offered compared with others. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and the payment plans are very easy on our pockets. We are not required to make lump sum payments or pay half the tuition all at once. The free on-campus parking is extremely convenient and the classrooms are spacious and comfortable." Nathan S.

"I have enjoyed my experience here in the past few months and look forward to becoming a licensed massage therapist soon. I really like the availability of the campus, location and parking." Jamie D.

All of this is combined in a positive learning environment." Ellen S.

"Studying massage therapy at KCC has been an incredible journey. The program is put together well and the faculty is top notch and impressive. The program is rigorous and expectations are set very high, so good time management and self-discipline is a must to succeed here. I have been given many tools to work with and feel confident in taking a true integrative approach to therapeutic massage and bodywork." Reggie C. (Spring 2006 graduate)

"As a “mature” adult going back to school, the KCC Massage Therapy Program was very helpful to my learning with their varied classes and knowledgeable and caring instructors.
