Intensive Care Technician Admission Procedures
| IMPORTANT
NOTICE FOR FIRST AID & CPR CERTIFICATION
- Please
enroll in a Standard First Aid or Heartsaver FACTS course.
Get
information on classes
- CPR
Certification must be full-certification which includes, Adult,
Child, & Infant CPR (1 and 2 rescuer) and Obstructed Airway,
called Healthcare Provider.

PREREQUISITES
- Human
Anatomy and Physiology
- Human
Anatomy and Physiology Lab
- Medical
Terminology (HLTH 125)
- EMT 100
& 101
Prerequisites
must be completed by October 1.
Application
materials may be submitted beginning June 1.
STEP
I.
PLEASE SUBMIT TO THE OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS, Kapiolani
Community College, 4303 Diamond Head Road, Kauila 121, Honolulu, HI 96816
New
Applicants/Returning Students
Submit a "University
of Hawaii System Application Form" with documents for residence
determination by October 1, AND an "Application
for Selective Admission Program" (ASAP) form. In addition
follow steps II, III, IV, and V.
Currently
Enrolled Students
Submit an "Application
for Selective Admissions Program" (ASAP) form by October
1. In addition follow steps II, III, IV, and V.
STEP
II.
SUBMIT
KAPIOLANI COMMUNITY COLLEGE MATH AND GE PLACEMENT TEST SCORES,
on page 3, by October 15.
Minimum qualifying
score: Math 24 & Compass Reading level 74. Test score
results are available at the Placement
Test Center (734-9144).
STEP
III.
PLEASE
SUBMIT TO THE DEPT. OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES, Kapiolani
Community College, 4303 Diamond Head Road, Kauila 121, Honolulu, HI 96816
- Submit
"Mobile Intensive Care Technician Supplemental Application Form"
(available from the Department of Emergency Medical Services) pages
1 and 2 by October 1.
STEP
IV.
SUBMIT TO THE DEPT. OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES,
Kapiolani Community College, 4303 Diamond Head Road, Kauila 121, Honolulu,
HI 96816
- Submit
certification of high school or GED verification (e.g. copy of high
school diploma or transcript) by October 15.
- Submit
college transcripts if you have attended college. Transcripts must be
mailed directly from the institution to Emergency Medical
Services Department and received by October 15.
- Submit
original local traffic abstract and
a copy of your Hawaii driver's license by October 15.
- Submit
copy of Hawaii State Certification as an EMT-B by October 15.
- Submit
verification of grade from EMT-B course by October 15.
An EMT grade verification form is included in the MICT Supplemental
Application Form.
- Submit
copies of any current BCLS, I/BCLS, or ACLS/Provider cards by October
15.
- Submit
verification of prior EMT-B work experience in the health field by October
15. Work verification forms are in the MICT Supplemental
Application Form.
- Submit
EMT/MICT career ladder program verification of work experience in the
health field part B (log sheet) 200-300 calls by October 15.
- Submit
copies of CME records beginning with the last certification period until
October 15.
- Make sure
your references submit their forms by October 15.
A minimum of three references must be submitted. Forms
for references are included in the EMS Supplemental Application Form.
STEP
V.
AFTER
STEPS I, II, III, AND IV HAVE BEEN COMPLETED, you will
need to:
- Participate
in an interview with the Mobile Intensive Care Technician Admissions
Committee. An interview letter will be sent by the Department of Emergency
Medical Services.
| REVIEW
FOR ADMISSIONS
(Admissions Office and EMS Department Admissions Committee)
- Applicants
whose required materials are received by the deadline and who
meet requirements will be considered for admission.
- Selection
is based on total qualifying scores in rank order--highest to
lowest until admission quota is reached.
- Total
qualifying score is based on the following:

Math 24, Compass Reading level 74, and EMT knowledge examination
scores.

College GPA if 12 or more credits were taken.
-
Prior completion of college Anatomy & Physiology, English
and Math courses. College courses must be taken within the
last 5 years with grades of C or above.
-
Current BCLS, I/BCLS, or ACLS/Provider cards.
-
Letters of reference.
-
Grade for EMT-A course.
-
Prior work experience as an EMT-A.
-
Interview scores until admission quota is reached.
-
Basic Life Support (Course C) Cards
-
Original local traffic abstract
-
200-300 logged calls
-
Applicants who are on academic probation at Kapiolani Community
College, who do not attend the interview, who do not possess a
valid Hawaii driver's license, or a satisfactory traffic abstract
will not be accepted regardless of their qualifying scores.
Note:
Applicants who submit required materials, after October
15, and who meet other requirements will be considered
on a space-available basis. |
