CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE in MEDICAL CODING

The student must achieve a minimum grade of 70% in tests and other requirements in Professional Medical Coding Curriculum in order to earn this certificate of competence.


Basic Medical Coding

This course is designed to introduce students preparing for a career in the medical coding profession. Students will learn today’s coding systems, including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), and HCPCS. Students must bring their own copy of 2008 CPT (Professional or Standard version), 2008 HCPCS, and 2008 ICD-9-CM to class. Books are not available at the KCC Bookstore. You may purchase your books at any bookstore or website, or by calling JEL Enterprises at 678-8636. Prerequisite: Background in Medical Terminology.
