The Arts & Sciences Language and Culture program offers Japanese, Chinese, and Italian language and culture classes (Italian will start up again in Fall). Classes are available for every level of learner – from beginning to advanced, and are offered on weeknights and weekends. Level 1 classes are five weeks, while Level 2+ classes are 10 weeks. Participants receive a Certificate of Participation upon completion of each class. Textbooks are listed, but are not available through KCC and must be purchased from an outside source (e.g., Borders-591-8995, Barnes & Noble-737-3323/949-7307, or amazon.com). The cost of the textbook is not included in the course fee. If you have any questions or need assistance in determining which level is most appropriate for you, please contact the Program Coordinator at 734-9315.

| Level 2: Continuing-Beginning Conversational Japanese (20 hours) |

This class is a continuation of Level 2. Continue developing foundational skills in listening and speaking basic Japanese. Lessons 11-20 of the textbook Japanese for Busy People I will be covered. Excellent for people who do business with the Japanese. Prerequisite: completed Level 1B or 20 hours of lessons in Japanese.
Textbook: Japanese for Busy People I: Text by AJALT (3 rd Revised Edition, Romanized or Kana version okay, 2006). Purchase in advance from amazon.com or check bookstores for availability. |
| Instructor: Teruko Castell, a native Japanese speaker, is a current student in the Japanese MA program at the University of Hawai‘i. She has a BA in Second Language Studies from UH and has been working as a teacher and tutor since 2002. |
