| Every student who accepts
an educational stipend for the Educational Interpreters and Assistants
(EIA) Project will be expected to comply with the following regulations:
• Be enrolled in the EIA Project courses
leading to a degree or certificate for Educational Paraprofessionals: Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Interpreting: Educational.
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Satisfactory progress is determined by Kapi`olani Community
College standards and outlined in the General Catalog.
• Fulfill a service obligation or repay
the stipend. For every academic year of financial assistance, students will
be expected to provide special education and related services
to children with disabilities for two years. Students may count
work that is performed after completing one academic year of study toward their service obligation; however, the students practicum hours will not be counted toward their service obligation.
One academic year is defined
as a full-time student attending classes during one academic
year or a part-time student accumulating 30 credits over several
semesters. A full-time student at Kapi`olani
Community College is someone who is taking 12-18 credits per
semester.
The service obligation must be completed within
a specific period of time. This period of time is not to exceed
the number of years required plus three additional years.
Stipend recipients who do not satisfy their
service obligation must repay all or part of their stipend.
The amount of stipend that has not been repaid through eligible
service will be the amount owed.
• Notify KCC of changes in address and employment status throughout the duration of the service obligation.
• Not accept
education allowances from any other entity if that allowance
conflicts with their obligation to this educational stipend.
