Email/Internet Account

You are entitled to a free email and internet account as long as you are enrolled as a UH students. The Nursing Department uses this address to send all of your mail so it must be active or you will miss important communications. Go to this site to request your identification number. Change your password to something you can remember easily. DO NOT give it to ANYONE.

Always check out the 'academic' price before you buy a piece of software. Its usually about half of the retail price. You receive the CD or DVD in the box so you can reload it if necessary later. You buy software at the UH Bookstore or at a number of sellers on the web. Be wary of sites with software that's very very cheap (e.g. $25 for a $250 academically priced program).

The University of Hawaii Information Technology Services (ITS) Department has posted instructional handouts on a number of subjects. UH Links The UH gives you some free software - browsers such as Internet Explorer, a virus protector, some web authoring stuff (basic, lite versions).

You will want a computer that is able to handle surfing the web. do papers and downloading in a reasonable amount of time. Microsoft Word is recommended. Check out the UH Bookstore to buy with your i.d. card or registration receipt.
